Members are invited to enjoy a night with Winemaker Shawn Kalleske, of Laughing Jack Wines in the Barossa. LJW vines adjoin the vines of the famous Grange plots and share much of the illustrious character of this area.
Laughing Jack is owned by Shawn and Briony Kalleske, of the renowned Kalleske family. Their three estate vineyards in Marananga, Greenock and Moppa are mainly planted to shiraz, with smaller amounts of semillon and grenache. The age of the vines vary considerably, with old, dry-grown shiraz the jewel in the crown. Shawn is a winegrower who lives in the vineyard and he has completed over 20 vintages at the estate. The quality of his wines is a testament to his rare work ethic and hands-on knowledge.
Laughing Jack’s enviable vineyard holdings were planted by his forebears with vines dating back to 1962. All sites are on the slopes, ensuring a cooler run through vintage for the Laughing Jack fruit, as compared to those on the hot and dry valley floor.
